The Facts about Massage Therapy:

Myth: “Massage is a luxury and not really a need. It is just a form of general relaxation, nothing more.”

Fact: Massage administered by a properly trained professional has a direct effect on the body’s ability to receive physiological improvement by relaxing tight, stressed muscles, removing toxins, increasing circulation and improving oxygen flow within the body.

Many massage therapists work at spas promoting their services as a luxury. Karing Vitality for Health comes to you to assess your needs and focus on health and healing.

Myth: “All massages are the same. If you have had one massage, you have had them all.”

Fact: Massages are not to be treated the same just as no one person is the same. Nor should different massage sessions have the same massage modality or approach. A massage should be individualized and be based on the person’s sensitivity to pressure, stress level (which the person is often unaware of until their muscled knots are massaged) and response to depth of pressure, which is the most revealing of what condition level the person is in and where they rank on the stress scale.

Karing Vitality for Health gives each person the genuine care and a complete assessment with professional integrity they deserve to determine the most beneficial massage modality for their specific needs. We take a fresh approach to the specific problems of each individual and utilize the particular massage method that is right for them so that each person will experience vast improvement and significant results .

Myth: “I have never gotten sore from a massage and I do not think I am supposed to be this sore.”

Fact: Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) is a common occurrence with the therapeutic massage treatment. The level of soreness will vary from patient to patient. This is the body’s first healing response - an attempt to restore balance back into the muscle tissue. Post-massage muscle soreness (DOMS) is caused by tight muscles having been stretched and realigned, adhesions and scar tissue broken apart so new tissue can form and lay down correctly, and/or deep pressure having been applied to an injured muscle to release spasm. Once this healing response cycle dissipates, more healing results will take place.

Karing Vitality for Health educates each individual based on our assessment in order to prepare them for what rate of Delayed Onset Muscle Soreness (DOMS) you may experience and will also give you helpful information on what you can do to make the healing process easier and more comfortable.

Myth: “The effects of massage do not last long so it really doesn’t do anything for me.”

Fact: Therapeutic massage does, in fact, have several long lasting effects including: reducing scar tissue formation, decreasing edema (swelling), loosening phlegm and relieving constipation. Just as good nutrition and exercise will deliver a healthy body over time, so will consistent massage treatments. Consistency is the key word. One treatment may not provide overnight results, but consistent massage therapy appointments, even just one massage per month, or every other month, will provide health benefits you will reap for years to come. You will thank yourself for years to come for massage therapy sessions you provide for your self today.

Myth: “You don’t need to work the knots out. Since you will never get them out anyway, I just need to relax more.”

Fact: The sole purpose of receiving therapeutic massage is to break up the knotted tissue, not just to relax the surface. A superficial surface massage not only defeats the purpose of the massage, but it can create adverse effects in the massage patient - meaning they can physiologically and mentally feel worse than they did prior to the massage treatment because it can simply irritate the area and not bring about enough change to receive the healing benefits therapeutic massage can offer.
“You can’t work on my knots without going deep and I don’t like deep tissue massages – they are too painful.”

If the massage therapist knows what they are doing and has been trained well, the results will be the opposite of this myth. A massage therapist who is very knowledgeable about the body does not have to go beyond the patient’s comfort zone to get the desired results.

Myth: “The higher the price, the better the massage will be.”

Fact: It is important for the massage patient to realize that there are a lot of massage therapists out there: the great, the good, the bad and the ugly!

Instead of focusing on cost, get a referral from someone you trust. Referrals are one of the best ways to shop for a massage therapist. Ask a lot of questions – don’t be shy if someone hesitates on answering. Continue your search until you find someone who has your best interests in mind.

Myth: “Massage is a luxury and is not taken seriously in the medical world.”

Fact: Massage has always been considered an important and effective form of treatment by top medical professionals. Many of the massage modalities we still use today were created by medical professionals centuries ago. Today, massage should be taken as seriously as the medical practitioners who created it intended, not just in the Eastern world, but by doctors and nurses in the West as well. The effectiveness of massage in health care has been proven for centuries, with no mention of its use as a luxury.
